What kind of weather data may I get?

The data we provide within the Meteo-Data.eu service are an output of mesoscale numerical weather model. What does that mean? They are numerical values of ordinary meteorological and related variables (e.g. air temperature, air pressure, rainfall, wind speed and direction, cloud cover and many more) in specific time steps (usually each hour) and within a regular spatial grid. From these data we select your desired locations and time interval and calculate any derived variables you need.

What kind of model is that?

Most of our data we generate using a modern weather model called WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting Model) that has been developed in NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research, USA) with cooperation of many institutions from around the world. Our model has been adapted for the areas of Czech Republic and Europe and contains some further postprocessing steps.

Numerical weather models of this category are very computationally demanding; calculating a single forecast takes several hours. It is only using powerful computer clusters what allows us to provide 9km resolution forecast for the whole Europe and up to 3km forecast for the Czech Republic. Should a very fine, specialized local forecast be requested, we are able to generate forecasts even in 1km resolution.

How far in future does the forecast reach?

Precision of the mesoscale weather models in general is strongly limited with time. From us you can ordinarily get a fine-resolution forecast for up to 72 hours (3 days) in advance, for a further horizon we only provide an outlook with coarser resolution. We update our forecast 4 times a day, every 6 hours.

How may I be obtaining the data?

Even in this we may adapt your needs, although the most common method is putting the files in a secured part of Meteo-Data.eu website, so that you can manually download and view the files easily as well as make an automated process of downloading and processing them.
